Doing some experimenting to get an old style black and white film feel to a picture. Why? Just for fun. :)
Day 46 colour
It definitely was a biscuit making and eating kind of day....there was a brief 30 second period when he had a patch of sun. In truth I kind of enjoyed watching the snow whip around, it has its own desolate beauty.
Since it's "pancake Tuesday" I thought I'd add a little flare to the dinner flap-jacks :)
Day 48 - Alternate - story time.
Day 48 - late night reading
Sammy reading to an "under the weather" Ben.
Making Molasses Snow Candy - yum!
Day 50 alternate
Someone is excited to go sledding.
Day 51 alternate
Sammy is capable of some epic "bedhead" another little detail to remember. :)
Wanted to try and capture a shot of Ben's eyelashes - they are so long, trying to remember to catch little details as part of 365.
Somehow I didn't get around to taking a photo today - so in interest of making sure I keep up with my 365 I grabbed a shot of Dinosaur Joe. The boys have been enjoying playing with classic Lego and so have Shawn and I. Dinosaur Joe was a group effort. :)
Sammy asked to "play math" today - so how can I not oblige? :) One of the things we've been working on recently is adding doubles. He usually does this on the abacus or balance beam - we sometimes also write the answers out. He loves "cracking math nuts".
At least these two are still getting enjoyment out of the snow - not sure which was more fun for them, sliding down or having races back up....
Homeschool Group today was a Step Dance lesson. The instructor was fabulous! He's been Eastern champion a few years in a row , is in the Highland Storm troupe, and is a fantastic teacher. The kids really had fun. They watched a reel and a jig and learned a few moves of their own.
Day 55 part 2
Sweetest little baby! So willing to be photographed.
DAy 56 alternative shot
With all the snow we are going a bit squirrely over here....
Went into Sammy's room today and saw these on his bed.... (titles: The Decline of Religion and Ecclesiastical History). Always interesting to notice what people choose for a little light reading.....
Looking for airplanes. (Seeing fur)
A picture of Ben running towards me with "hugging arms".
I've been playing around with learning how to capture Silhouettes and Partial Silhouettes. This isn't quite what I'm envisioning yet, but I'm getting closer. Luckily I have a fairly patient boy who will usually let me practice. :)
Our woodland friends we see around the house include Ernie and Captain the squirrels, Neeno the fox, Captain Clover the rabbit, various unnamed blue jays, crows and grouse and now Peepers the owl - whom we saw for the first time today.
Today's homeschool group was an outing to a ice wonderland - a local family had sculpted statues, castles, this mighty throne, and lots of different ice slides. Lots of fun to be had on this chilly day. Here is Pirate King Sammy taking a rest from the ice slides. (You can see Ben's lobster hat in the background - he spent most of the time chilling on a snow sofa)
Sorry Mom, Sammy's Birthday card for you was on tracing paper and is hard to read in this photo. It says "We love you Gramma" and has a picture of a Dandelion. Happy Birthday and Love from all of us!!
We're all still a little under the weather here (especially Ben), so it's been a quiet day at home with a little extra screen time - here they are watching a cartoon version of The Wizard of Oz - Love Sammy's arm around his little bro.
I love my early morning coffee on my own, but a breakfast buddy this sweet is also most welcome.
Dapper Dude Dressed up in his theater best...
Boy totally enthralled with musical theater.
Climatic battle scene
Washing the floor like this is by far the boy's favourite chore. To quote Sammy: "This is definitely the most piratey of the house jobs".
Me: Sammy don't you think you might get a bit cold without your pj shirt?
Sammy: Well, maybe, but that's just the way it goes for a pirate rouge like me.
We had a lovely playdate with some friends, including this little cutie who was having a blast practicing safe stair decent.
Bowl of Banana Bran Batter is just Better. :)
I love these two!
Another shot from today...
Sometimes a captain needs to warm himself by the fire...
Ben pondering the deep after bath questions of life....(like which pjs to choose)
Someone is ever so proud of his work - he finished excavating and building this dinosaur skeleton today.
Setting the Morning Basket calendar. A happy and rare day we can put the spinner to sunny and not snowy.
The fun of Grandma arriving AND getting to help build a super cycle, today just rocks!
Day 77 Photo B
This is a rug my mother hooked, it is of the boat we used to live on. She began it 36 years ago, then it spent a couple of decades in storage and about 2 years ago she brought it out and in 2014 finished it. There are special family sweaters woven into here and a whole lot of work, it takes a whole lot of floor space too! The boys loved rolling on this - much softer than our tile floors. Good job Grandma!
I am so blessed to have a cozy warm home, and family that I love to spend time with. It's all good when you have a fun new to you game and time to enjoy it. :)
My little graffiti artist....
A fun time building, naming and decorating Ruffull Miller Snowman. The boys wanted to use their snow paints to decorate him to look "beautiful". Beautiful/Extra from Saving Private Ryan .....all in the eyes of the beholder.
It is the perfect kind of day to stay in your pjs and help Gramma make cookies.
